Max is heading back into The Pitt.
The streamer has picked up a second season of The Pitt, a medical procedural set in the emergency room of a Pittsburgh hospital. ER alum Noah Wyle stars in the series, which comes from creator R. Scott Gemmill and executive producer John Wells.
The show follows Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the chief attendant in the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s ER, through a 15-hour shift with a group of interns and residents. The show, which unfolds in real time, also stars Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.

“It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of Max original programming. “Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”
Gemmill, Wells and Wyle added in a joint statement, “We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of The Pitt and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros. Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season.”
Viewing figures for The Pitt aren’t available, as is the case with most streaming shows (it didn’t make Nielsen’s top 10 list of original streaming shows in the two weeks after its Jan. 9 premiere). Reviews have been mostly positive, with The Hollywood Reporter critic Daniel Fienberg writing that “The Pitt emerges as a well-executed medical procedural made by people who know from well-executed medical procedurals, boasting a structural twist that’s occasionally very effective.”
“From its powerful stories to its realistic set and unique real-time format, The Pitt is truly a masterclass in storytelling — and it’s all due to the talented team of executive producers and crew, and the incredible ensemble cast who truly embody the pace and pressure of a hospital emergency department,” said Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD U.S. Networks. “John, Noah, Scott and the team have so many more stories to tell, and we are thankful to our partners at Max for giving them the opportunity to do so.”
Warner Bros. TV and John Wells Productions produce The Pitt. Gemmill, Wells and Wyle (who’s also a writer on the show) executive produce with Michael Hissrich, JWP’s Erin Jontow and Simran Baidwan.
